The Russian Church’s Relationship with the State, a Choking Loop…

The news until recently would have been unthinkable. But today it is a reality. A letter has been sent to the Orthodox Presidents bearing the signature of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Volokolamsk Hilarion, announcing that the Moscow Patriarchate is now the victim of a “ruthless pursuit” by the Pussy Riot, and continues with the destruction of monuments and crosses, threats against clerics and attacks on the Patriarch of Moscow himself and all Russian Cyril Pasha.

The letter is, in essence, a call to the Orthodox Patriarchs and Archbishops to support the Church of Russia in passing. As rightly pointed out, “the Russian Orthodox Church seems to be emitting a danger signal for the first time since the fall of existing socialism, as it seeks Orthodox support for a series of disturbing events which, it states, are cultivated by non-ecclesiastical and non-ecclesiastical circles. ”(TO STEP, 26.10.12).
Of course, the leadership of the Russian Church cannot afford all this. Unfortunately, it is up to the powerful (from the Vatican to the Russian Church) to always blame others on the “blasphemous” and “anti-ecclesiastical” and so on, forgetting their own mistakes. And here the Russian Church has made a tragic mistake, which today pays and will continue to pay dearly, unless the cruise line changes. Its mistake is the passionate embrace of state power. The irrational support for President Putin, who acts as a tsar, and in various ways reimburses the Russian Church for its “loving” disposition towards him.So the solution is one-way. The Church of Russia must begin here and now to disengage from being entrenched in state power. Unless opposition reactions, that is, those who oppose this ill-fated relationship, will escalate. Critic voices, which are not at all condescending, grow as the sand of the sea.

Today’s ecclesiastical leadership of the Moscow Patriarchate is largely responsible. Following the fall of Communism there was an enviable boom in the Russian Church. People looked to the Church as a real Mother. Russian spirituality has once again emerged as the hope and meaning of life. The establishment of the Church in the consciousness of the people was a miraculous event worldwide. Now, however, the Russian Church is in danger of being depreciated. Because being affected by the secular power, she forgot her blessed Russian salvation … And began to conquer the world, before even virtually winning her own flock!
We wonder, is this the Church of Christ? Just politics and power? Only the fake dream of the Third Rome just to overpass and destroy the other “sister Cherches”? Sorry Moscow but this looks like the “Game of Thrones “.
