Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavsky , Patriarchal Exarch of Belarus, spoke about the Belarusian autocephaly. On PTS, he said that there is not such need in our country. He believes that under autocephaly lies an attempt to divide people.
You know, I often talk about my meeting with Metropolitan Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz. I asked him: “Vladyka, do you also want to proclaim the autocephaly of the Catholic Church in Belarus?” He replied: “No, no, no!” I say: “For some reason, everyone tells us: the Orthodox Church should proclaim autocephaly in Belarus ,” he said.
Metropolitan Pavel, noted that today in Belarus there is no need to carry out administrative or canonical transformations.
He also complained about the decision of the Council of Ministers, which prescribed the appointment of senior citizens of Belarus. According to the metropolitan, this limits his ability. He expressed the hope that this restriction would be lifted.
“This, of course, limits our capabilities and abilities. I would say in some cases this negatively affects. Let’s hope that someday this framework will be lifted, because it’s a relic of the past, ”he said.
The Belarusian exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. It was created in 1989. Today in the country there are 1,687 Orthodox parishes of the BOC, 35 monasteries, 11 male and 24 female. In the clergy of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, there are 1801 priests and 221 deacons.
But we wonder, why did the Patriarchate of Moscow asked for Autocephaly from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, whose Eparchy used to be, since Metropolitan Pavel says “there is no such need” and these things separate people?
