On September 22, 2019, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, once again met with His Beatitude Patriarch of Great Antioch and the whole East John X, the DECR Communication Service reports.
The meeting took place in the city of Zahle (Lebanon), and during the negotiations, Metropolitan Hilarion conveyed to His Beatitude the fraternal well-wishes of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Vladyka Hilarion and Patriarch John discussed the development of bilateral relations between the Antioch and Moscow Patriarchates, as well as topics of pan-Orthodox significance, among which the Ukrainian question is currently the main one.
His Beatitude Patriarch John asked that His Holiness Patriarch Kirill be thanked for the support provided by the Russian Orthodox Church to Christians in the Middle East.
From Lebanon, Bishop Hilarion went to the Holy Land, where on September 23, 2019 he visited the Jerusalem Patriarchate and was received by His Beatitude Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all of Palestine Theophilus III.
The meeting was also attended by Archimandrite Alexander (Elisov), head of the Russian Theological Mission in Jerusalem, Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, secretary of the DECR for inter-Orthodox relations, and hieromonk Afanasy (Bukin), clergyman of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Metropolitan Hilarion conveyed to His Beatitude the fraternal well-wishes of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church. During the conversation, issues of the development of fraternal relations between the two Local Churches were discussed. His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos told Vladyka Hilarion about the ongoing restoration of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
In turn, Vladyka Hilarion spoke about the situation in Ukraine.
At the end of the meeting, the hierarchs exchanged gifts.
Then Bishop Hilarion, accompanied by the Archbishop of Hierapolis Isidore, the senior guardian of the Holy Sepulcher, bowed to the Holy Sepulcher and the place of the Crucifixion of the Savior on Calvary.
